If you want your chin to look it's best, then you must take the time to get it
in shape weeks prior to the show.  If you keep your chin properly groomed, it
will cut down the time you have to spend grooming your chinchilla the
morning of the show.  It will help get your chin's fur in a better shape for the
show.  Also, this will get your chinchilla use to being groomed.  You do not
want your chin to be squealing, twisting, turning, and slipping fur the
morning of the show.  If your chinchilla is use to being groomed, it will be
much calmer.

Pre-grooming assures less of a mess and is a common courtesy to fellow
breeders who are showing their chinchillas.  Why a courtesy?  It is less of a
mess and the fur from the dark animals will not be in the air and settling on
the white/light colored chinchillas and visa versa.  Loose fur can also cling
on the clothes of the judges and spectators.   A few pages of newspaper or a
sheet spread on the floor where you are grooming, can help you keep your
chins fur where it needs to be ... off the floor and off of the other chinchillas
and breeders.

Below is what happens when someone does not clean-up after themselves.
Multiply this by 300 chinchillas.  We each need to do our part.

Grooming and grooming methods vary from person to person and often even
from chinchilla to chinchilla.  As long as the end results are good and no
damage/harm has come to the chinchilla or breeder, all is well.  This is
harder on the breeder than it is on the chinchilla.  It does not hurt a chin to
hold it by the tail, if you do it properly.

Before the show
can start, all
chinchillas must be
put in the proper
category for age,
sex and color.  This
is done under the
same strict lighting
as the judges will
use to judge them
later.

Animal handlers, the 'ghost workers' of the show, often go unnoticed, but are
an important part of the show.  To keep the show running smoothly and
appear to be effortlessly done, they must pay close attention and have each
animal ready and waiting to be placed on the table in the proper sequence,
as the judges need them.

Chinchillas all ages, shapes, colors and sizes are welcome ...just be prepared
to be able to take constructive criticism!  You are here to learn as well as
enjoy.
