In God We Trust ...

*Everyone Else Pays Cash*
*   I heard that statement many years ago, and thought it to be a bit crude, if not down
right rude!  I had been raised in a time that your word was your honor and to cheat, steal
or lie, just was not acceptable ... for any reason.

*    I have found, in the chinchilla world, most still think/feel that way ... But ... if you are
around anywhere long enough, there will always be exceptions to the rule.

*    It is wonderful and nice to be able to trust, but, if that trust is betrayed, it can be a real
headache.

*    Should you accept checks and extend credit?  You decide, but, please, not until you
see this example ...
*   Many of you are familiar with this little
poster on the adoption page.

*    Ms.Christina Dagulo adopted 5
chinchillas from me.  All were show
quality and would make good breeders.
There was a standard gray, a
standard/violet carrier, a violet, a dark tan
and an extra dark ebony.  All were
females.  Each of the chins came from
excellent lines, such as Ritterspach,
WhiteWoods, Musselwhite and Huggins.

*   Christina paid a partial payment of
$500 by check and I allowed her to take
two extra chins home with her with no
down-payment, because she was going to
pay me the balance in 3 weeks, when she
picked-up a white mosaic kit she wanted,
but was not quite old enough to leave it's
momma yet.
*   As I am sure you have assumed by now ... Ms.Dagulo stopped payment on the check,
did not pay any additional payments AND did not return the kits as she had agreed to
do.  Not that she did not have the money ... she had just paid cash for a brand new car,
according to her ... an expensive one.

*    Why she felt she could do what she did and keep the kits without paying the
consequences, I do not know.  But she tried.

*    The Commonwealth of Virginia prosecuted her for Felony Thieft, but the Judge said
since she did not stop payment for 3 days, and according to law, that would not show
intent, so the criminal case was dismissed.  Of course, the Judge did not know Ms.
Dagulo
knew I would not deposit the check for 10 days, just in case she changed her
mind about the chins.   She was informed I could take her to Civil Court to recoup my
losses.  She laughed at the idea.   She refused repeated letters and sent them back "return
to sender" unopened, with no intent to pay or return the chinchillas, as per agreement.

*   Little did she know, I did not find it funny at all and fully intended to take it to the
extent of the law.

***Below is the result:
*   The Judge found her guilty, and Ms. Dagulo now has a judgment against her for the
amount of the check, the balance owed on the chinchillas and the court cost ($1,283.00)
plus 6% interest until it is paid in full.

*   This judgment is automatically sent to each of the credit reporting companies and
can affect her credit score and ability to get credit, make large purchases such as a car
or home, a bad credit report will even affect the amount charged for insurance.

*    I can put a lean on anything of value that she may own and/or garnish her
paychecks, should I chose to do so.

*    This will remain on site until the balance is paid in full and I feel she has realized it
does not pay to cheat, or try to cheat, honest people.

*    You may think this is a bit much, but, if people like this are not stopped ...
YOU could be their next victim!

he will not bite you;
that is the principal difference
